A friend passed on this link: TV and Parables of Our Time from American Public Radio’s show “Speaking of Faith”
The page that comes up is from Krista’s Journal where she reviews Diane Winston’s Book: Small Screen Big Picture: Television and Lived Religion.
I have not yet read this book, but I enjoyed Krista’s journal. She says that looking at various shows in the way that Winston proposes led her ” to examine my own sense that these television narratives are important — that they are spiritually and theologically resonant, and even thrilling.” She then notes that analyzing shows “helps me relax and enjoy them.”
I believe that television provides a wonder space for shared praxis: doing theology in public.
See what you think. I ordered the book.
